Through Zanyar Omrani’s documentary Solitary Confinement, Awat Poury traces the connections between imprisonment, the siege of Sanandaj and pandemic quarantine. Drawing on Youssef Ardalan’s memories, archival images and the nurses’ struggles in France, the article revisits the violence of 1979–80 in Kurdistan and examines how official media narratives erased democratic demands and medical workers’ resistance.
